Delivering First Nations Employment Opportunities in 2023

Waalitj Foundation Employment Mentor Sandra Simpson provides information to participants.

First Nations employment mentors have started the year strong, empowering participants to take on new job opportunities in 2023.

Plan 2day 4 2morrow (P242) employment program is delivered across Kwinana, Peel, and the Upper South-West as a result of a partnership with the Alcoa Foundation. The program is delivered in a targeted way in communities near where Alcoa operates its bauxite mines and alumina refineries.

The Waalitj Foundation have seen incredible results since launching this program in February 2022, weekly Fit 4 Work group sessions and individual mentoring ensures participants get consistent support to reach their goals. The program has seen 120 First Nations people assisted, 35 of whom have secured employment.

P242 focuses on improving the employability of First Nations job seekers through developing skills and work readiness. It is delivered by First Nations employment mentors, who take a culturally appropriate approach to break down barriers to employment and provide intensive mentoring.

The new year has revitalised participants dedication to finding the right role for them and with the support of their Waalitj Foundation mentors they are set for a successful outcome.Waalitj Foundation Employment Services Manager, Erin Rundle said that this program has a great track record of setting participants up for long-term and sustainable employment opportunities.

“In 2022, we saw participants take the leap into new opportunities and become role models in our community. In 2023, we hope to further strengthen our connections in the community and help even more participants into employment,” said Ms Rundle.

The Waalitj Foundation invites all First Nations jobseekers to come along to a Fit 4 Work pre-employment session near them. This is a great way to learn about local job vacancies, build employability skills and get to know the employment mentors.
